How do heat exchangers work?

Heat exchangers transfer heat from one fluid (usually hydraulic oil) to another fluid (air or water). This process occurs through a heat exchange surface, which can be of various types (plates, tubes, fins).

Types of heat exchangers

There are different types of heat exchangers for hydraulic systems, each with specific characteristics suitable for different applications:

• Air/oil heat exchangers: Use air as the cooling fluid. They are suitable for applications where good ventilation is available.
• Water/oil heat exchangers: Use water as the cooling fluid. They are more efficient than air/oil heat exchangers and are suitable for applications where a water source is available.
• Plate heat exchangers: Consist of a series of thin plates that create a large heat exchange surface. They are compact and efficient.
• Shell and tube heat exchangers: Consist of a bundle of tubes inside a shell. They are robust and suitable for high-pressure applications.
